Job Description
Working within a friendly team through a formal design development process, you would be responsible for your own projects and for coordinating colleagues to ensure designs are delivered on time and to budget. Typically creating hand sketches to generate innovative ideas, you would then use SolidWorks to develop 3D concepts through detailed design engineering and into manufacturing data/drawings. We strive for efficient design to deliver successful projects so you will also make use of a wide variety of different tools including TRIZ, dFMEAs and FEA through to rough mock-ups and prototypes for physical testing.
3D design and component detailing must be first class, with fully drafted plastic parts and all moulding requirements identified. Any steel and fabricated parts must be designed considering available materials and manufacturing processes from the outset. Our client’s products are of the highest quality so our designs need to be thoroughly engineered to perform in the same manner.
There will also be an element of mentoring less experienced designers and developing specialist knowledge to serve as an expert within the team.Ultimately, you need be someone who is highly motivated, who is passionate about design, engineering and developing quality products for our clients.
Experience Required
Due to the nature of our work we are looking for someone with at least 7 years design experience. Knowledge and experience of the medical sector is advantageous but general mechanical design aptitude and a track record of developing successful products in a range of materials is a must.
An ability to undertake mechanical calculations and a good understanding of FEA would be an advantage but an open and creative mind, willing to learn new skills is vital. A good understanding of project management and it’s accompanying commercial implications would be helpful too. We are looking for someone fully conversant with the suite of SolidWorks software. However we do realise that the person we are looking for may not be able to cover the whole range of skills required so training will be provided to cover any shortfalls in knowledge, if required.
Qualifications
Qualified to minimum HNC with apprenticeship or HND/degree level, with the ability to think laterally and focus your energy on the needs of our clients.
