Business development co-ordinator – New Post

With a great design team and ambitious plans, we are not marketers nor sales people so we need someone who can help deliver our marketing plan, increase enquiries and sales for the business.

Based in Stafford, we focus on providing innovative design solutions to our valued customers in a wide variety of sectors. Reporting to the management team you will support the company’s marketing & development plan through a range of activities as can be seen below. We need someone who enjoys making contact with people, setting up systems and process, is able to take on additional projects, while working in a very collaborative environment. A personable individual with a sense of humour and a sociable demeanour is a necessity for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Implementation and optimisation of the marketing plan
  • Assist with development of all marketing initiatives to support company sales targets.
  • Managing internal and external contacts, screening enquiries, fielding calls, correspondence and first point of contact.
  • Monthly and weekly reports and presentation of marketing progress against company marketing plan.
  • Managing marketing communications, including account management/support, sales calls and initial enquiries.
  • Overseeing certain aspects of the marketing mix such as coordinating events attendance and trade shows, social media, email marketing campaigns, website, print etc.
  • Drafting press releases, coordinating case studies, managing website content and other ad hoc marketing material.
  • Supporting client relationships and marketing activity using CRM and Mail chimp campaigns and lead forensics website monitoring.
  • Building relationships with clients and suppliers.

Candidate’s ideal qualities:

Package:

  • Annual salary dependent upon experience £24-26k plus bonus

What does a placement or internship with Haughton Design entail?

We want someone keen to learn best practice and who wants to develop their skills within a success design development consultancy. We expect the successful candidate will have at least a 2.1 in product design or design engineering and to have completed a relevant 12 month placement as part of their course.

Ideally you will have a full driving license so you can visit clients or suppliers if required. The primary role of the intern position is:

  • To assist the HD design team with design development and design engineering tasks on a range of diverse projects for our clients. The work will cover tasks required to design/develop equipment and or products at any point in the entire product development process.   • To assist with developing the existing HD design and business systems, including working practices & our quality systems ISO 9001 & ISO 13485
  • To assist with marketing activity, including marketing material if required.

Initially we will provide some basic SolidWorks/Inventor 3D training then build up to assemblies and generating detailed manufacturing drawings. During the process we will introduce the placement to the add-on packages such as rendering, animation and FEA. We will try to introduce them to fee paying work to help them gain commercial experience ASAP but initially we want the placement to build their skills to a professional level so their work is of a high quality. The timing of moving to fee paying work will be somewhat dependant on our general workload, the speed of learning and the success of our sales and marketing activity during this period.

We will quickly help the placement settle within our team, they have a friendly and supportive attitude, the team will involve the intern in general, product, engineering and mechanical design for clients in a range of industries. The work will involve effective design procedures and techniques, general business procedures such as quoting, project management and some commercial activity dealing with enquiries and meeting clients. Our intention is that the intern/placement would complete twelve months and develop an excellent knowledge of how a design company operates, good quality CAD skills and design project management experience too. Our aim is to prepare the successful candidate for a full time position and long term career at Haughton Design.

The salary we offer is highly dependent upon the quality and skillset of the candidate but it will be competitive as we need to attract and retain high quality people within our business.

Job Description

Working within a friendly team, to a formal design development process, you would be responsible for your own projects whilst liaising with colleagues to ensure designs are delivered on time and to budget. Typically creating hand sketches to generate innovative ideas, you would then use SolidWorks or Inventor to develop 3D concepts through detailed design engineering and into manufacturing data/drawings. We strive for efficient design to deliver successful projects so you will also make use of a wide variety of different tools including TRIZ, dFMEAs and FEA through to rough mock-ups and prototypes for physical testing.

3D design and component detailing must be first class, with fully drafted plastic parts and all moulding requirements identified. Any steel and fabricated parts must be designed considering available materials and manufacturing processes from the outset.  Our client’s products are of the highest quality so our designs need to be thoroughly engineered to perform in the same manner.

Depending upon experience, there will be an element of training and support for you to integrate quickly. You will soon be mentoring less experienced designers and developing specialist knowledge to serve as an expert within the team. Ultimately, you need to be someone who is highly motivated, who is passionate about design, engineering and developing quality products for our clients.

Experience Required

Due to the nature of our work we are looking for someone with at least 3 years design experience. Knowledge and experience of the medical sector is advantageous but general mechanical design aptitude and a track record of developing successful products in a range of materials is a must. An ability to undertake mechanical calculations and a good understanding of FEA would be an advantage but an open mind and being willing to learn new skills is vital. A good understanding of project management and it’s accompanying commercial implications would be helpful too. We are looking for someone fully conversant with the suite of SolidWorks software, Inventor is of interest too. However we do realise that the person we are looking for may not be able to cover the whole range of skills required so training will be provided to cover any shortfalls in knowledge.

Qualifications

Qualified to minimum HNC with apprenticeship or HND/degree level, with the ability to think laterally and focus your energy on the needs of our clients.
