The HD team has grown once again!

Following our most successful 12 months to date, we have further expanded the team by welcoming Luke Brown who joins as a Design Development Engineer. This week, Luke discusses where he typically finds design & engineering inspiration, what attracted him to HD as well as how his first week with us has been:

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I’m a big lover of music, DIY, painting, and really any opportunity to learn a new skill. I also like to maintain a healthy social life!

What attracted you to design & engineering and, what was the pathway to your role?

I love bringing an idea to life, and watching it develop through the each of the design phases. It’s a very rewarding process watching a simple sketch turn into a CAD model, a prototype, and ultimately into a product worthy of production. I graduated from Staffordshire University with a degree in Product Design and have since developed a broad range of skills from working in the HVAC and refrigeration industries to designing for sheet metal & fabrication. I have a keen interest in FEA and 3D CAD modelling as well as a strong knowledge of standards and patents – I am keen to contribute this experience to designing products & medical devices at HD!

Where do you typically find design & engineering inspiration?

I find that inspiration usually comes at the most unexpected of moments – such as mowing the lawn!

What is your favourite part of the product & medical device design process?

To me, the most rewarding part of the design process is overcoming the engineering challenges that each project presents by applying various design tools such as idea generation techniques, FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and CDR’s (Critical Design Reviews) to name a few!

What interested you in HD and, what are you looking forward to about working at the company?

There are several elements that attracted me to working at Haughton Design, such as their attention to detail and their supportive, professional & collaborate office culture as well as their focus on the engineering aspect of design.

I’m looking forward to contributing to Haughton Design’s ongoing success and developing a niche within the company where I can best support my colleagues and customers too.

How has your first week been?

Great, I’ve covered good ground and managed to spend a decent amount of time with each of my peers, learning Haughton Design’s processes, and most critically, the 3 phase design workflow.

Please get in touch to find out more about working with the team at HD to solve your product and medical device development challenges.
