Challenge:
To design a new, innovative laboratory paddle blender for use by food microbiologists with improved ease of operation, access for cleaning and a dramatic reduction in operational noise. With a solid reputation for robustness, performance and reliability, the Stomacher® range of lab blenders had been in production since 1973 so these qualities had to be maintained.

Solution:
Our team’s inquisitive and questioning nature allowed us to escape traditional thinking behind paddle blender design – the conceptual designs created were truly innovative and a complete step change from existing blenders. To reduce noise, Southampton University conducted trials allowing us to use their findings to engineer the new product for lower sound emissions. A very successful prototype was built by ourselves for Seward to verify performance and validate usability aspects of the machine whilst HD worked with toolmakers and moulders to ease this product into production.
