HD were approached by Assa Abloy – Yale, to work alongside their in-house design team to provide an industrial design service focused on establishing an aesthetic for a new smart living lock ahead of prototype production. The lock was to be designed so that it would complement a range of door styles and colours whilst conveying a modern “smart” appearance. Styling ques were taken from the Yale logo and existing products to ensure the new smart lock would complement the range and be identifiable as a Yale product.
Haughton Design played a key role in designing the Conexis L1 Smart Door Lock that won Yale the Consumer Product of the Year award at the National Technology Awards. Combining HD’s in-house team of experienced designers and engineers with Yale’s vision and understanding of market needs, a category leading product boasting market leading features as well as improved usability and performance was delivered. In addition to this, HD’s work generated new intellectual property for the client to exploit.

The Conexis® L1 Smart Door Lock puts users in control of their door, allowing them to configure, control and unlock their front door all from their smartphone, via a Bluetooth low energy App. Use a variety of ways to gain access to your home whether it be via a key card, a key tag, phone tag or via the smartphone app – Conexis L1 App. Installation of the device is easy as the Conexis L1 smart lock is compatible with most UK ‘lift to lock’ multipoint locks. The smart door lock simply replaces your existing handles and you only require a screwdriver to install the device.
